Vino Intrepido Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing Pinot Grigio
Pinot Grigio/Gris | Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia
The wolf – majestic yet dangerous – with the term ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’, this pinot grigio is probably not what you’d expect, packing more punch than you might have become accustomed to.
From the Mornington Peninsula, from the 100 Hunts vineyard in Tuerong. Fruit was harvested overnight and after bringing it back to the winery it was immediately pressed. The juice was kept cool to help separate the solids, and subsequently racked to a mixture of 500L puncheons; two old and one new. Malolactic fermentation was allowed to complete in barrel, and the wine aged on lees for a further six months.
Huon Hooke – The Real Review
“Light straw-yellow hue. There are captivating nutty and spicy aromas, a suggestion of oak from barrel ferment, some tropical fruits, and the palate is soft and round, but delicate and subtle as well, the finish quite lengthy and satisfying. Rich spicy, stone fruit flavours; a faint trace of sweetness rounds it out. Long carry—a totally convincing wine. The oak is fairly evident on the nose and it’s more gris than grigio, but delicious.” 93 points
