Like an oration from the great man this wonderful Champagne has many complex layers and interpretations but a singular focus toward excellence.

The relationship between the implacable British bulldog and the esteemed Champagne house began as Winston served as President as the British Board of Trade. Obviously seeking to increase the rate of trade with France all by himself, Winston is credited with ordering 240 000 (albeit 2/3 sized) bottles of Champagne from this wonderful producer during his lifetime! Such an important customer was he that, just before being overrun by the Nazis, Pol Roger dispatched a special delivery to England at the beginning of WW2, mostly for Winston.

This vintage of the top-ranked Champagne has a fine persistent bead and aromas of orchard fruit, spice, crystallised lemon with yeast ever persistent. The palate is as its namesake, powerful, yet precise and direct, with minerality, butter and citrus, yet fresh floral notes persistently hanging over a brioche note. This vintage cuvee is aptly named after the man, hard to fully know and vastly complex, yet elegantly dressed and all the better for further investigation.
