Midori is a melon liqueur with a sweet and fruity flavour profile. In 1971, drawing on a similar recipe dating back to 1899, a Tokyo-held cocktail competition provided the stage for the birth of a new melon-inspired liqueur. This new invention created a global buzz and in 1978, Midori – meaning “verdant, green emerald” in Japanese – was launched in style at New York’s Studio 54. The Midori recipe relies upon the finest Yubari melon to provide the prominent sweet and fruity flavour profile, a refreshing quality, and a universal appeal.
The Japanese Midori is a Suntory Group creation, and a liqueur that has become associated with certain panache – sophistication, youth and class. This exotic bright green, liquid brilliance has inspired a plethora of Midori cocktails and Midori recipes, some of which include the world-renowned Midori Splice, Midori Illusion and Japanese Slipper.
