True to its French origins the wine is a light although bright purple in colour with aromas of bright red cherry and bramble fruits. On the palate the wine is light to medium bodied with a soft balanced finish. The Gamay is perfect for drinking over the next 2 years and can be served slightly chilled.
The Gamay grape variety has been around for many years with references to it dating back to the late 1300’s. It is thought to have been named after the town of Gamay in eastern France. Suited to mild growing conditions, Gamay can be light and fruity through to medium bodied.
Serving Suggestions
The Gamay style is quite versatile when it comes to food. It is light enough to try with quail wrapped in prosciutto with stir fried vegetables. Or try it with a selection of cold meats, such as salami and aged Jamon.
